Mexico Surfing Property
An article in Friday’s edition of the New York Times captures the essence of the real estate market in Puerto Escondido, a remote beach spot in Mexico that has managed to avoid high rises and chain stores.
But the story only touches on Puerto Escondido’s reputation as a legendary surf spot, one of the best on the Mexican coast. Board riders from all over the world make the trek to challenge the waves of Playa Zicatela, a dangerous and consistent big-wave break frequently used for international competitions.
The surf culture seeps into every aspect of Puerto life, from the smoothie stands offering high-protein banana and peanut butter sandwiches to the abundance of cut rate hotel rooms within easy walking distance of the waves. Frommer’s calls Puerto Escondido “the best overall beach value in Mexico,” which may be true.
Here are a couple of examples of Puerto Escondido property, listed on Zicatela Properties, which is mentioned in the article:
A 3,000-square-foot house with multiple terraces and a palapa roof deck, listed at $380,000 (€257,000):

Two-story house with ocean views, pool and maid quarters, listed at $550,000 (€372,000):
